I was going to say something about the importance and extreme difficulty of love. And then I thought : I have watched the Pope visiting France on TV when he was in a stadium overfilled with young enthusiastic people and the next day at the mass with a huge assembly, about 800 000 people present. The TV commentators were all happily surprised and delighted by the atmosphere of joy and peace radiating in both cases. Two days later demonstrations started bringing about violence and destruction and on TV we could hear the speech of a politician full of hatred. It felt like 2 days in Heaven followed by two days in Hell, such were the gap and shock ! Love is a difficult word and a complex reality but when hatred shows itself, then we have no doubt about what love is and how it acts.
I’m looking forward to seeing you next Saturday, in the hope that the rioters will not be able to invade the center of Lyon again and we will be able to meet and pray together as usual.
In Christ’s joy and peace,
Edith
